Nana mint, (mentha spicata), is one of 210 species of mint that grow all over the world. Na-na is Arabic for mint and is also known as spearmint and Moroccan mint as it is used to make Moroccan mint tea - a combination of green tea, mint and sugar. We add it as an ingredient when blending our Moroccan mint tea using a recipe collected on a trip to Marrakesh.

Nana mint contains less menthol than peppermint making it a milder version with a sweeter and less pronounced taste but still with all the same health benefits as peppermint. Nana mint has many purported health benefits including used as a decongestant, an analgesic,a refreshing mouth rinse and to relieve travel sickness, stomach cramps and bloating.

We recommend nana mint for those who prefer a gentler, smoother mint flavour with a little sweetness.

Nana mint is excellent used to blend with other infusions such as camomile or lemon verbena. It makes an excellent chilled drink for summer sipping or use in cooking - try adding to natural yogurt to make a quick raita or blend with feta cheese for a tasty sandwich filling or salad addition.

Nana mint is especially soothing after dinner on a night as it refreshes the palate, settles the the tummy and aids digestion.

The bright green, chopped nana mint leaves are interspersed with darker, sage green leaves and omit a delicious, light mint aroma. The infusion on steeping is a rich golden colour with a woody, mint smell. On sipping the infusion tastes clean and bright with a smooth and gentle mint flavour which leaves a lingering refreshing taste.

Nana mint would be equally delicious drunk on its own or with food. Try drinking with foods traditionally married with mint such as lamb or green vegetable dishes such as asparagus, pea or courgettes. Nana mint, because of its smooth flavour, would be delicious with desserts such as chocolate or fruit dishes.

3g / 1tsp in 200ml of boiling water(100c). Steep for a minimum of 5 minutes, preferably 10 minutes
