Formosa Honey Tea is a blend of black teas from Taiwan. The variety of tea chosen is especially selected for its sweet, entirely natural honey taste, hence the name. Teas from Taiwan are also traditionally known as Formosa teas. Formosa is Portugese for “beautiful island”- the name the Portugese traders gave the country as they sailed past in 1542!

Taiwan is now known for its high quality oolongs. However, every type of tea has been grown in Taiwan, invariably determined by the political situation of the time. With Japanese colonisation in 1895 black tea production was encouraged. In the 1920s tea plants from Assam were intoduced and many of the hybrids from these bushes are now used to produce the black teas of Taiwan

The leaves are a mixture of a deep rich brown and a lighter golden colour. The tea steeps a clear light bronze hue with a sweet honey aroma. On tasting the flavour is mellow and smooth with a honeyed and lingering sweetness, underpinned by a gentle fruitness and full malty flavour.

Formosa Honey Tea would be perfect paired with breakfast pastries or toast and preserves.

2.5g at 98c to 200ml for 4 minutes.
